So the past week has been exciting in the Mrdutt household! While patiently waiting for our appointment that was today, Baby Mrdutt decided to surprise us with the first couple kicks mid last week. I was unsure how long it would take before being able to feel any movement, with all the books saying between 18-22 weeks. Earlier if it is your second or more child, later if it is your first pregnancy, earlier if you are thin, later if you are heavier. So, instead of comparing myself to any other person or book, I wanted to wait until the baby was ready to make his/her presence known. Well, last week Baby Mrdutt decided that it was time! While last Thursday was the first day I felt definitive kicks (Five that night, active baby!), thinking back I'm pretty sure I may have felt some "flutters" earlier on. At that time I just chalked them up to normal digestive movements. Well, since feeling the first movements it's all I can feel! I can tell when the baby turns over, flips sides or decides my bladder may be impeding in on his/her space! Ben has even gotten the chance to feel the kicks! It took a few days of constantly calling him over when I started to feel movement before the baby decided to cooperate and kick Daddy. Actually, speaking of kicking, I am being kicked while writing this.
I had the past weekend off, so we made the short drive over to Minnesota to visit some friends, go out to dinner and just spend some time away from home. It was a very relaxing weekend, where we didn't have anything we had to get done. However, we still were in great anticipation of today's appointment.
Speaking of the appointment today, I'm sure people want to know what we are having. If not, I would recommend that you stop reading from here on out.
Ben and I were pretty sure we knew what the sex of the baby was due to my recreational use of my work ultrasound. It isn't nearly as high quality as the human ultrasounds but when you get the right view, it's pretty easy to tell. :) And we were right.
Baby Mrdutt is now Baby BOY Mrdutt!
He wasn't afraid to show us his goods today at the appointment. Every time the ultrasound tech (Crystal) went to take a view of something else, he would flip around and spread them wide! And I'm not even kidding, he did this at least 6 times! It was turning into quite the joke among all of us. I'm just hoping that this doesn't continue into his teenage years!
Everything with the ultrasound went very well. He was VERY active so Crystal had to work pretty hard to get the shots she needed. Like I said, every time she went to take a picture, he moved. The ultrasound took about an hour, mainly because we were about 30 minutes early so we got started early and then had some time to play. Because of the extra time we spent a lot of time just looking around and taking different fun shots. I included some of them here. We got to see him hiccuping, sucking his thumb, shaking his finger at us :) and of course, all the boy parts, repeatedly! :)
All of the measurements came back normal, nothing to be concerned about at this time. One fun thing we found out was, based on my cycle date, we had a due date of May 31st. After taking in all of his measurements the due date based on the ultrasound was May 22nd. What's funny is we are VERY sure of ovulation/conception dates because we were on some medications that helped the process. This boy is just that big! Our doctor did say due dates can fluctuate about 12 days either way, but I'm thinking that this boy is just all Mrdutt. He is already measuring at one pound in there! Ben's prediction for delivery date is May 18th. He also wants to start a baby pool; his idea, not mine!
One other thing we want to mention since we know we will be asked is, yes, we do have a couple names picked out but no, we are not telling anyone. We want to get to know this baby's personality a little bit as time goes on and don't want other people's comments to influence our decision on names. Absolutely no offense to anyone, but just one comment can make you change your mind. Plus, it's one more surprise to wait for!
So from me and my boys, we hope you have a fabulous day!
I can't believe it, I was almost positive it was going to be a girl. Maybe those Mrdutt boys only know how to make boys! Grandma Barb is watching, laughing...not only did she have 3 wonderful sons but now she'll have 3 wonderful grandsons. Alright Anna - who's going to have a girl first? :)
